An Integrated Vision with Four Pillars
With this updated The Hague Food Strategy, the municipality aims to create tangible impact—bringing healthy, local, sustainable, and plant-based food to the plates of The Hague’s residents and entrepreneurs. The strategy focuses on making a positive impact on nature and the environment, encouraging healthy choices, fostering care for each other, and promoting short supply chains. These pillars are reflected in Het Haagse Bord (The Hague’s Plate), which is structured around the city’s unique characteristics: numerous food initiatives and entrepreneurs, regional products from the sea, greenhouses, and pastures, as well as education. Additionally, various initiatives and activities that contribute to one or more pillars are highlighted. This integrated approach supports the development of a future-proof food system for The Hague.
Insights from Within and Beyond
This strategy does not stand alone but is connected to scientific insights on the food transition and policy frameworks beyond the municipality of The Hague. Schuttelaar & Partners created a concise overview of these external perspectives.
In addition, we organized four discussions and compiled a report for the client. These conversations took place with various organizations, each contributing their unique perspective on food. The client engaged with the Voedselbank Haaglanden, an expert from the supermarket sector, a representative of the Haagse Voedselraad, and an advisor from the fisheries sector.
We also collaborated with the municipality of The Hague to organize two internal working sessions, where the scope and objectives of the strategy were discussed.
