The Dutch Ministry of Health aims for more European agreements on a healthier food supply. Minister of Health Edith Schippers already committed to voluntary European agreements for salt, saturated fat and calories and put them on the agenda of the Dutch EU presidency.
Mapping of European initiatives
In the Netherlands, many stakeholders in the food supply chain join forces to produce healthier food. Schuttelaar & Partners mapped initiatives of other EU Member States on healthier food – mainly on logos and statutory arrangements for product improvement – and compared their nutritional criteria and targets.
European conference on product improvement
The Minister stated in a letter to parliament that this preliminary study provided input for joint efforts at the EU level. On 22 and 23 February 2016 the Dutch Ministry organized a European conference on product improvement in Amsterdam and presented a roadmap for action: www.akkoordverbeteringproductsamenstelling.nl.
