European Projects & Public Affairs Consultant

The Internet of Food and Farm, also called IoF2020, is an EU-funded project. IoF2020 aims on achieving the uptake of the Internet of Things in the European Food and Farming sectors, in order to make precision farming a reality by 2020.

European Projects and Public Affairs

The Research and Communication solution team is dealing with topics in agriculture & food at EU level both for public and private clients. The main goal is to bring clients close to the European policy arena. In understanding and influencing the decisions of the European institutions, as well as being front runners together with our clients in different European Projects, the team is building and managing long-term stakeholder relationships that are based on trust. We support our clients, partners and EU projects to navigate their institutional relationships, engage in policy discussions and build meaningful public/private partnerships to place their objectives on the agenda of most important societal issues. An important part is developing new EU opportunities in the field of sustainable agriculture and food relying on our communication services.

What you will do

  • Conduct project management and coordinate the communication and dissemination basis of projects in the context of EU Horizon 2020 / Horizon Europe in the field of sustainable agriculture, in close cooperation with partners and the European Commission
  • Contribute to the projects’ consistent strategic positioning, development, implementation and monitoring of the projects’ communication and dissemination strategy
  • Provide detailed strategic advice around EU public affairs
  • Deal with general enquiries relating to communication and dissemination activities
  • Project & event management in H2020/Horizon Europe, coordinating up to two large events a year
  • Represent S&P and projects at relevant events and functions
  • Research of funding opportunities and active involvement in acquisition of new clients and projects
  • Support in the development of new tenders and projects
  • Help with institutional relations (PR activities)
  • Monitoring of European developments of relevance for S&P


What you have to offer

  • A Bachelor or Master Degree in agriculture or food, with proven experience in communication or public affairs, or – the other way around – a Bachelor or Master Degree in communication or public affairs with a proven passion for agriculture or food
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in public affairs in Brussels
  • A thorough understanding of European policies and the workings of the EU institutions
  • A proven track record in lobbying and / or advocacy vis à vis the EU institutions, either in a consultancy capacity or as a member of a trade association
  • Excellent overall communication skills including writing, oral, and presentation skills in English; French, German or Spanish is an asset
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, social skills and team spirit
  • Proactive approach with a hands-on, flexible and solution driven work mentality
  • Previous experience in writing EU tenders is a plus
  • Knowledge about H2020 projects or any other type of EU projects is a plus
  • Intrinsic motivation to contribute to the mission of Schuttelaar & Partners
