Making small societal real estate more sustainable for the Province of South-Holland
The program
Small public amenities often do not possess sufficient expertise and capacity to effectively invest in the sustainability of their buildings. The province of Zuid-Holland has created the Ontzorgingsprogramma Maatschappelijk Vastgoed, which offers process support to schools, care institutions, sports facilities, small municipalities, community centres and built cultural heritage to do just that.
What we did until now
In 2021 we convinced 38 holders of small societal real estate to join the programme. They are taking great strides by insulating their buildings, improving ventilation systems and placing solar panels, among others. This helps create a healthy and sustainable environment for the public.
Our approach
We work as sustainability coaches in this multi-year project. We inform, attract, and activate building owners to make tangible progress with their societal real estate. Based on their situation we charge independent technical advisors to provide tailor-made support, ranging from a map of practical sustainability measures to assistance in setting up a business case, finding financing, and contacting reliable partners for implementation.
As sustainability coaches we form the central hub in the network of societal real estate holders and municipalities in Zuid-Holland. We form the front office, organize informational meetings, advise and communicate regarding the programme, and take care of knowledge exchange.
