Supporting socially sustainable supply chains via ALIGN
Agri-food companies increasingly feel the need to secure living wages and living income in their international and often complex supply chains. Companies that want to take concrete action to improve living wages for workers and living income for farmers, can now use ALIGN. This is a guidance tool for which Schuttelaar & Partners developed the technical framework for the website and the visual identity.
The ALIGN Platform is a collaboration of Fairfood, Hivos -Humanist Organisation for Social Change-, Rainforest Alliance and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. These NGO’s feel the need to align existing initiatives to improve living wage and income, to collectively create more impact. Hence the name ALIGN for this tool that engages companies by offering information and support to speed up their efforts in creating socially sustainable supply chains.
Building a community
ALIGN was initially presented in November 2019 at the International Living Wage & Income Conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After several updates it is now officially launched and ready to be used by companies to step-by-step improve wages and income for upstream workers and suppliers in their supply chains. “An important update is the resource library which provides updated information and relevant contacts per country and per commodity”, says Bram Ueffing, lead developer online tools at Schuttelaar & Partners. “ALIGN also enables users to add own initiatives via an easy to use online form. As such this tool creates a strong community to support living wage and living income.”
ALIGN is ready to use
Build understanding, assess risk and take action are the three steps in the action process for users of ALIGN. The tool provides inspiration by sharing best practices for every step, helping businesses to find partnerships and tackle the wicked problem of living wage and living income in their supply chains. “As a developer of the ALIGN Platform we invite the business community in agri-food to use the tool”, says Tijmen de Vries, strategic consultant at Schuttelaar & Partners. “ALIGN is ready to use, so get started and make a difference!”
